Minimalist... feels like a sin?

Another day in the neighborhood.  My dear and darling nephew is staying with us for the week, I should clarify that my "dear and darling nephew" is 17.  How old do I feel. Anyway, my husband is in video game heaven, each night he and Morgan game for a while... I even join in from time to time.  Yes, I do game... with great limitation and not very well... save for Dr. Mario and Tetris, I can kick some virtual butt in those... and only those.

What this has to do with today's post... um, nothing.  Editing... so maybe you could link the two by the fact that my husband's dream job is to edit video games.  POW! In your face! I should play 7 ways to link the rabbit trail up.  This is my third post about editing and if you haven't noticed yet my editing has been done on a FREE image editor by Google called Picasa.  Though it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of Photoshop it allows you to do so much with your images for free.  I started these posts because I came across so many people who thought their only options where Photoshop and getting a Mac.

On to editing my fun with the hose pictures (sounds slightly... well, I'll just leave that alone).

Edit:
Yet again with my minimalist editing I know.  I brightened the shot up by using a bit of highlights, pulled out the greens a bit and then shadowed the background.  All done yet again on the free Google editor Picasa.

Edit:
This one I brightened up quite a bit, pulled out the colors a bit (saturation) and sharpened a little.

I did this two ways partly to show you how many options you have and partly because I can't make up my mind most of the time... at least on my own personal photos.

This first edit I darkened it up a bit and then used their tint option picked a pale creamy/yellowy white and then keep about 75% of the color (color preservation), then I saturated it (made the colors brighter).

This edit I again had to darken it some I turned the color a bit cooler (more blue tones) then saturated it a TINY bit, and added a bit of shadows.

To edit a photo is to tweak it in my opinion, you shouldn't have to do much.  Now if you want to by all means but the photo should be able to stand on its own without or with minimal tweaking.  That's what I shoot for... get it, it's a pun ;P

  1. I really like your minimalist approach...with the last shot, I like your final edit. Much cleaner. :)

  2. Nice edits! I like the second one of the slip-n-slide better than the first one. LOVE Dr. Mario, but no one will play it with me~they don't like to lose. Also love my Mac and Photoshop, but I had them long before I started editing pictures :)

  3. What a great site. I am so glad you left me such a nice comment on my blog or I may never have found you. I am trying to learn as much As I can to take better photos and learn PSE. I am new to editing and actions etc. I have never worked in Picasa, but I know it is very popular and free. I am looking forward to learning more through your posts.

    My best- Diane
